The Green Party has a fundamental commitment to honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi and working with tangata whenua in a meaningful way on national and local governance in Aotearoa. I believe that if we honour Te Tiriti and address systemic racism in our institutions which targets and dispossesses Maori then we can build a country together where we all win. This requires change though and bold political leadership is needed to forge a new path for the Crown and Maori in Aotearoa, one that brings together the rights and aspirations of both tangata whenua and tangata Tiriti.
As part of the Green Party, I will campaign for
- Universal teaching of Te Reo Maori in schools
- Better relationships between hapū and iwi at all levels of government
- Guaranteed representation of mana whenua on local government authorities
- A fair and comprehensive Treaty settlements process which leaves none behind
- Greater autonomy of Maori over health, education and justice
